Our Story
The story of The Delights Shop begins with deep roots in Jordan’s agricultural heritage, specifically in the fertile lands of Karameh in western Jordan, where the country’s first palm date farms were cultivated in 1986. These farms, owned and operated by the Kawar family under the Progressive Agricultural Investment Company (PAI), span over 1,250 dunums and are home to more than 15,000 Medjool date palms across six thriving plantations. The company specializes in the production of premium Medjool dates, known for their rich texture and natural sweetness.
Spark of Inspiration
The inspiration for The Delights Shop was born from a simple yet innovative idea by Zeid Kawar, a culinary enthusiast with a passion for healthy indulgences. He explored the concept of dipping dates in chocolate to mask the occasional loose skin and enhance the experience of eating dates. A focus group was organized by a friend and led by a local chocolatier, and the response was overwhelmingly positive. The success of this initial experiment led to a partnership with the chocolatier and the creation of a unique product line under the brand name “Home of Desert Delights.”
Driven by his vision and dedication, Zeid eventually acquired full ownership and began building a brand that fused tradition with innovation. This marked the beginning of The Delights Shop, a boutique concept blending premium dates under one elegant and inviting roof.
Making History in 2001
When The Delights Shop first opened its doors in 2001, it made history as the first boutique in Jordan to introduce premium chocolate-dipped dates, a bold concept that reimagined tradition with a modern, health-conscious twist. What began as a simple yet innovative offering quickly captured hearts and palates, as dates nature’s healthiest sweetener became a sought-after indulgence in a world increasingly turning toward clean, natural treats.
